It was built in 1835 to be the home to the queen’s favourite handmaidens, changed into a royal guesthouse and hunting lodge, and finally became the residence of the Maharaja Sawai Mansingh II and his queen Maharani Gayatri Devi.

The palace complex overflows with glory and splendour, decorated with geometric latticework or jaalis, accompanied by sandstone balustrades, cupolas and cenotaphs, and elaborate Mughal gardens.
